Hello. We're Moose and Simba, your guides in the Pet Memorials section. Mom chose us since we're her "Rainbow Angels". We both went to The Rainbow Bridge on September 14, 2000. Mom made this section to help comfort anyone who has ever lost a furbaby.

We'd like to tell our story about how we went to the bridge. I was still quite young - only 2 years old. Simba was about 10 years old. Dad had noticed a scratch on my head that had bled a little. It wasn't serious at all, so Mom said she's keep an eye on it. The next day, they noticed some swelling. I was eating Ok, and was acting normal. Mom still called the vet, and got an appointment for the next morning.

When the vet examined me, he said my lymph glands were all swolled, and he wanted to test me for feline leukemia. Mom & Dad agreed, so they did a blood test. A little while later, the vet gave them the bad news. The test was positive, and it had developed into lymphoma. He said I would only live another 2 weeks or so, and it would be very painful. I know the next part was really difficult for Mom & Dad. They made the decision to have me put to sleep. Mom cried, and told me how much she loved me. She said she just couldn't let me suffer.

I'm Simba - I'll tell you the rest. When they found out how sick Moose was, Mom & Dad made an appointment for Harley and me to be tested too. They took us in the same day. Harley was OK. But I had leukemia too. I had it almost as bad as Moose. Mom & Dad had to make the same hard choice again that day, and had me put to sleep with Moose. I know it really had to be hard for them. They really tried to take good care of us. The vet knew I was an outdoor cat, but he never even suggested they have all of us tested and vaccinated for feline leukemia. If he had suggested it, we all would have been vaccinated; Moose & I would still be part of the family.

In telling our story, Moose and I hope to help keep this from happening to another cat. If it's diagnosed early, feline leukemia can be treated and kept under control. Please - have all your cats tested and vaccinated!!!

*A little note - Since losing Moose and Simba, we have found a new vet. Our boys now go to a closer office that specializes in treating cats. Dr. Mauer takes wonderful care of my babies!
